Carlton Court Development
(Page Updated May 4th 2026)

The first public indications that something was planned occurred in April last year, when a substantial part of the Carlton Court Car Park was made inaccessible by the installation of wooden hoardings. Concerns were raised with the landowner, via his letting agent and the responses can be viewed HERE.

It then emerged that the intention was to build a residential block, utilising most of the car park and requiring the demolition of three of the shops in Carlton Court. The company concerned, Churchill Living, provided a two-week opportunity in October to comment online on the proposals and a summary of the responses can be seen HERE

The Society provided a detailed response which can be seen HERE

The actual planning application was made in late December and became public in mid January. The application, together with relevant documentation can be seen HERE

A public meeting was held at the Village Hall on Friday Jan 30th and was streamed via Zoom, with an overall attendance of about 90. Andrew Renshaw gave a presentation on the plans, after which there was a discussion amongst those attending. You can see a copy of the presentation slides HERE and a recording of the presentation HERE (with apologies for the quality of the audio!)

In April, the Transport Planning Management section of the Council gave their response to the plans, acknowledging the concerns raised by residents over the impact on parking in the area and requiring Churchill to carry out surveys to assess the current parking situation in surrounding roads.
