Van Dwellers on the Downs

One issue that has raised concerns for some time has been the number of caravans and other vehicles parked on and around the Downs.The issue was raised at our recent AGM and then followed up by a discussion with our Councillors at the Westbury Community Forum.
A petition has been launched on change.org and we have been asked by one of our members to add this information to our website as well as circulating it to members... If you would like to sign this petition, the details are available here
The petition asking the Council to "Protect the Bristol Downs, Enforce Council Policies and End Van Dwelling Encampments" obtained 6481 signatures, 4169 by Bristol residents as of May 20th, and is therefore to be discussed at a Full Council meeting on Tuesday July 8th. The petition organiser is allotted 5 minutes to present and speak to the petition and a further period of up to 15 minutes is provided for Councillors to discuss the petition. The petition will then be referred to the relevant Policy Committee Chair for a formal response.
Members of the public can attend the meeting and can also submit a written personal statement and/or up to three written questions.
